What A CIO Should Know: All CIO blogs at AllTop

An online aggregation service called AllTop has created a collection of links to CIO blogs and their most recent posts, including several of the blog entries reprinted in CIO Canada magazine.

CIOs may be undecided about the iPad and its use in the enterprise. Info-Tech Research analyst Mark Tauschek offers a video commentary which puts some of the knowledge worker issues into perspective. Less than two minutes long.

In a recent issue of CIO Canada we featured an except from The Real Business of IT, by Richard Hunter of Gartner and George Westerman of MIT. Last month, the Harvard Business Review published a blog post by the co-authors in which they discussed a trend where some CIOs are setting out to become CEO.
 
The CIO Assocation of Canada has set April 15-16 for its 2010 Peer Forum, which will be hosted in Toronto. This is a chance for networking, best practice discussions and more.
The federal Privacy Commissioner’s office has begun public consultations on how emerging technologies affect the collection, use, storage and disposal of personal information. This includes online tracking, profiling and targeting. Written submissions accepted until March 15.

In a report called From Data to Dollars, McKinsey Quarterly suggests CIOs have a chance to expand their influence as the mediators between business requirements and IT capabilities by supporting top management with next-generation executive information systems.

It’s not easy becoming a new CIO, particularly when colleagues thought they might get the job. Research firm Gartner has published what it describes as a “formula” or checklist for setting up an effective IT team and obtaining partnership across the enterprise.

ISACA, which publishes the CoBIT framework for managing IT change in large organizations, is introducing a new certification: Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), based on its recently-announced Risk IT framework.  
For an overseas perspective, a blogger known as Fibol has created CIO Innover Voice, which examines issues around project management, IT investment and more.
