Network Associates buys again

Security solutions provider Network Associates Inc. continued its shopping spree on Friday when the company announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Entercept Security Technologies for US$120 million.

Entercept, based in San Jose, is an intrusion protection system developer that provides products to protect servers, operating systems, databases and applications from attacks.

The acquisition is Network Associate’s second in a week, and it expects to complete the transaction within the next 45 days. [Please see Network Associates to buy IntruVert for US$100 million.]

Some of Entercept’s clients include New Century Mortgage, First Citizen Bank, Corio and Arlington County. Its products utilize a combination of behavioural rules and signatures to help prevent known and unknown attacks.
