Companies team to counter identity theft

Online retailers and technology companies, including Microsoft Corp., eBay Inc., and Amazon.com Inc., have created the Coalition on Online Identity Fraud to fight online identity theft.

The coalition will push the U.S. government for effective enforcement and penalties against criminals, and will work with government agencies including the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Other coalition also includes security vendors McAfee Security, RSA Security Inc., VeriSign Inc., and others.
