Microsoft enables Azure Government users with OpenAI’s AI models

Azure Government users, including U.S. government agencies, can now use OpenAI’s AI models to enhance their capabilities.

Microsoft will officially announce the integration in a blog post, providing access to GPT-4 and GPT-3. While the specific agencies adopting these models have not been disclosed, notable clients such as the Defense Department, Energy Department, and NASA are part of Azure Government.

These language models can be utilized by government customers at various levels for tasks like research answers, coding assistance, and summarizing reports. Users will interact with the models through a chat-like interface, but direct access to ChatGPT will not be available.

Notably, the Defense Technical Information Center, an integral part of the Defense Department responsible for military research, has confirmed its intention to experiment with OpenAI’s models through Microsoft’s new offering.
