Google has corrected the Google Assistant white noise sound issue. In a statement to The Verge, Google’s spokesperson Robert Ferrara noted: “There was an issue impacting our white noise experience. It’s fixed now and working as it previously did.”
The correction by Google became necessary after users submitted a number of complaints in a community thread from Google Nest. The thread with more than 159 responses described how uncomfortable the altered white noise was for them and their family.
While waiting for Google’s fix to the problem, a user on Reddit supplied a workaround for those who are interested in getting the original white noise back. The user uploaded a one-hour track of the original one and longer versions of it to Google Drive.
The Google Assistant offers 15 different ambient sounds that can help the user fall asleep, from running water and rain to distant thunderstorms and white noise.
Users interested in white noise can simply say, “Hey Google, play white noise.” Users can also ask Google Assistant to play a specific sound, including crackling fires, roaring rivers, the distant wildlife of a forest, or weather such as rain and thunderstorms.
