Google revealed that the Google Chrome web browser will discontinue support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices in February next year, with Chrome 110 due for release on February 7, 2023, the last version of the popular web browser that supports Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
“With the release of Chrome 110 (tentatively scheduled for February 7th, 2023), we’ll officially end support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1,” Google Chrome Support Manager revealed.
Google’s end date of support is the same as Microsoft’s for the Extended Security Update (ESU) program for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, which will be released on January 10, 2023.
After discontinuing support for Windows 7 and 8.1, Google advises Chrome users to ensure that their devices run at least Windows 10, which is Microsoft’s advice for customers whose systems no longer receive technical support or software updates, exposing their computers and data to security risks.
Google advised users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to upgrade to a supported version of Windows before Microsoft discontinues support for these operating systems next year in order to receive new features, security updates and usability improvements.
