Seneca College, Salesforce offer certificate program

Salesforce.com and Toronto-based Seneca College have partnered together to offer a unique social media certificate program which incorporates training on the United-States-based cloud computing company’s cloud marketing tool.

The eight-month Social Media Graduate Certificate program being offered at the Markham, Ont., campus of the applied arts and technology community college includes training in Salesforce.com’s Marketing Cloud suite of services. They will prepare graduates for a career in the social media industry, according to Bhupesh Shah, co-ordinator of Seneca’s Social Media Graduate Certificate program

After completion of the course, he said, students will be eligible to write the Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) Marketing Cloud Certificate exam.

“Armed with this industry recognized certification, Seneca grads will be highly desirable to employee,” a statement from the college said. “According to recent analysis by Indeed.com, a global job search engine, there has been a spike in recruiters looking for employees with specific social media skill sets.

The course will prepare graduates for positions such as digital marketing field in roles such as customer relations specialist, digital content manger, brand ambassador, digital media manager, social media community manager, social media curator, or social media strategist.

More companies are “shifting away from mass marketing and now they listen and engage with their customers on social media in a tailored one-to-one basis,” said Renny Monaghan, head of marketing for salesforc.com Canada.

The Marketing Cloud suite basically integrates CRM software with information taken from social media sources. It allows users to “listen” in on social conversations using tools such as those developed by Radian6, which enable marketers to identify and analyze conversations about their company, product and competitors.

The service also includes tools that enable users to publish content and run integrated campaigns across social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or a company Web site. There is also a social advertising management application within Marketing Cloud that enables users to build, optimize and automate advertising campaigns on Facebook and Twitter.

Seneca’s Social Media Graduate Certificate program starts this fall. It is offered as a full-time or part-time course. It is open to holders of a diploma or degree from a college or university and/or mature students with three to five years of related work experience and with college-level English proficiency. Tuition for one year is $5,771.
