OneDrive Windows 7, 8 Updates Will End in March 2022

From January 1, 2022, OneDrive users will no longer receive updates to their personal Windows 7,8 and 8.1, and from March 1, 2022, OneDrive users on these devices will no longer be able to sync their content with the cloud.

Microsoft clarified: “Personal OneDrive desktop applications running on these operating systems will stop syncing to the cloud on March 1, 2022. After March 1st, 2022, your personal files will no longer sync and should be uploaded/accessed directly on OneDrive for web.”

Although users will still be able to access files from the OneDrive app regardless of the version of Windows they are using, those with systems running Windows 7,8, 8.1 are advised to upgrade their operating system to Windows 10 or Windows 11 to continue to access, edit and share all devices connected to the Internet through the OneDrive website or mobile app.

For Microsoft, the reason for the change is to “focus resources on new technologies and operating systems, and to provide users with the most up-to-date and secure experience.”
