LockBit Victim, Atento Lost $42 Million To Ransomware Attack

Atento lost $42.1 million to ransomware attacks, according to the company’s 2021 financial performance results.

The loss includes a revenue loss of $34.8 million and an additional $7.3 million in costs related to mitigating the impact of the attack.

These costs include charges for enhancing security, protecting data, detecting threats in good time and implementing effective mitigation measures.

“Like so many companies in the current era, including some of the world’s technology leaders, we were struck by a cyberattack, which impacted our fourth-quarter results. This impact proved to be far greater than we initially expected due to the complexities of these events and how the aftershocks manifest,” said Carlos López-Abadía, Atento CEO.

Atento, one of the world’s largest providers of CRM and business process outsourcing services, confirmed the cyberattack on October 22, 2021.

The company, which has a strong presence in the Latin American market, has been forced to suspend its systems based in Brazil in order to contain the threat.

The LockBit ransomware gang published the files of the company on its website in November. This shows that Atento did not pay the ransom requested by the attackers.
