Bluebox launches BYOD security solution

Mobile security startup Bluebox Security today released its first secure corporate data solution for devices running on iOS and Android operating systems.

The Bluebox software-as-a-service (SaaS) mobile data solution use a data wrapping technology that identifies and encrypts corporate data on the device and in applications. It also automatically detects and protects against platform-level vulnerabilities, application tampering and device jailbreaks.

Bluebox was founded in 2012 and recently announced a Series B financing round which brought its total capital to $27.5 million. Its security team was responsible for the discovery of the Android master key exploit last year.

Caleb Sima, CEO of Bluebox, said the company built its mobile data security tool based on feedback from bring-your-own-device (BYOD) users and enterprise companies. Sima said employees sought a “native and transparent experience” while companies wanted “visibility and security of data.”

Bluebox separates corporate and personal data and provides users with a privacy dashboard that offers full visibility into what application or activity IT is tracking.

This approach, according to the company, helps ensure the privacy of corporate users and provide and chief information security officer (CISO) strategic insights into the “who, what, where, when and how” of corporate data access.
