Apple Launches Android App to Help Users Scan Nearby AirTags

Apple recently announced the launch of an Android app called Tracker Detect, which is available on the Google Play Store and will help users scan nearby AirTags or other similar trackers that may be travelling without their knowledge.

According to Apple, the new app will ensure that a user performs a scan that will help them detect AirTags or compatible devices if they believe someone is using them to track their location. The move from Apple, therefore, seeks to boost privacy.

In its statement, Apple announced that the app will allow Android users to proactively search for item trackers that are no longer with their owner. If such a tracker has been moving with the user for more than 10 minutes, the app will help find them. This is achieved by playing a sound and giving instructions on how to disable it. An Apple spokesperson said of the new technology: “We are raising the bar on privacy for our users and the industry, and hope others will follow.”
