Alphabet’s Wing To Use Drones For Deliveries In Texas

Alphabet’s drone delivery service Wing announced that Walgreens will use its drones for deliveries from a store in Texas.

Wing also announced that Walgreens employees will be responsible for handling and loading packages onto delivery drones instead of Wing employees.

While Wing will launch the drone delivery in the parking lot of the Walgreens store in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the delivery will serve part of the city of Frisco and the city of Little Elm. “The aircraft will arrive in small containers that serve as tiny hangars, allowing each store to quickly and easily deploy a small, dedicated fleet from its parking lot, on its roof, or in small spaces adjacent to the building,” Wing said.

While the companies have moved quickly toward drone deliveries that will help speed up deliveries, Wing said it has begun to conduct test flights of its drones at a drone test facility in Fort Worth and hopes to launch a commercial service there in the coming months that it says will “be the first of its kind in a major U.S. metro” area.
