Job seekers with expertise in open-source technologies, particularly Linux and Android, are faring better in their job search these days.
According to this PC World article, there have been three reports recently highlighting the growing demand for developers with skills in Linux, Android, Ruby on Rails, Python and JBoss. Robert Half International, a staffing company that does job market research, notes that some of the most lucrative job prospects out there favour people with a “fundamental understanding of Linux.”
This article notes that the Web technologies based on open-source code are growing, thus leading to an increase in demand for skilled personnel. It also points to a report by Dice, an IT career site, that says demand for Python and Ruby programmers is at an all time high, while demand for Android developers is up by one third.
