IBM Corp. released trial versions this week of four technologies that aim to make life easier for developers creating applications for its DB2 database.
The technologies were released on IBM’s alphaWorks Web site, at www.alphaworks.ibm.com, where developers can get an early look at IBM technologies that may or may not end up in finished products. Part of the goal is to collect feedback from developers about how well the technologies work.
The first is a plug-in for WebSphere Studio that provides a graphical front end for DB2 Intelligent Miner, allowing users to add data-mining functionality to applications without having to learn Intelligent Miner’s SQL application programming interface (API). It includes a view for managing the data mining models stored in the database and a visual editor for drawing the flow of a data mining process more easily, IBM said.
Also available is Easy Mining Procedures for DB2 Intelligent Miner, billed as an easy-to-use SQL interface for the main steps in the data-mining process.
IBM also released the Replication Monitoring Center for DB2, which it said could reduce the time and cost of replication monitoring. The tool was originally developed by IBM’s services arm in Germany and works in a variety of replication scenarios using DB2 Propogator, the company said.
Also available Tuesday is a trial version of URI Access for DB2, a tool that aims to reduce the steps required for accessing data stored in DB2 from a Web-based client such as a browser or an XML parser, IBM said.
