CygNet updates USB data protection product

Indian firm CygNet Systems has provided a green update for its data leakage protection software, according to a press release. USB CopyNotify raises a system alert when USB removeable storage devices are plugged into a computer on the network, allowing administrators to detect or prevent data theft. Coverage has been extended to include detection of other USB-connected devices like mobile phones and MP3 players. The notification includes the computer name, IP address and USB device description. Also new is a “save energy” alert, which sends a notification when a computer is idle for more than a specified length of time, allowing them to be powered down to save on electrical consumption. USB CopyNotify runs on Windows 2000 or later, and can be licensed in packages of 10, 25, 50, 100, 150 or 200 PCs. Larger network licence packages are also available.
