Call-Net signs $70-million IT outsourcing deal

Canadian telecommunications provider Call-Net Enterprises Inc. announced today a $70-million, five-year IT outsourcing agreement with EDS Canada.

Serge Babin, Call-Net’s senior vice-president and chief technology officer, said the outsourcing of the company’s IT operations would allow Call-Net Enterprises to focus on its core business of telecom network and operations.

Call-Net Enterprises, a provider of local, long distance, data and Internet protocol (IP) services, and local services, is EDS’ largest telecom client in Canada.

Under the agreement, EDS Canada will assume operational responsibility for Call-Net’s IT operations and infrastructure, including the company’s data centre operations, enterprise-wide desktop support, around-the-clock help desk support and local area network. Approximately 77 Call-Net employees will move to EDS Canada.
