Cisco adds modules to 8500

New modules for Cisco Systems Canada Co.‘s Catalyst 8500 multiservice switch router allow enterprises to combine ATM and Layer 3 IP services in one platform.

The ATM router module is designed to allow campus networks to migrate from ATM to gigabit Ethernet, according to Cisco officials. The module combines Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching and routing between ATM and Ethernet ports.

Other enhancements for the 8500 include an Access Control List daughter card, designed to enhance policy-based networking features, an eight-port gigabit Ethernet line card and an OC-48c port adapter module.

Cisco Systems Canada in Toronto can be reached at 1-800-553-6387 or at www.cisco.com.
