The Northeast Ohio Software Association’s annual CIO Symposium in mid-November ended with a survey of participants around spending priorities. Although the content requires registration, roughly 70 per cent say they expect their budgets to increase in 2011.

Forbes magazine’s CIO Central blog recently featured a guest post from longtime industry analyst Ray Wang titled “Why The CIO Role is under fire,” which does a great job of offering a sense of key IT executive challenges.
Popular blogger Robert “Scobleizer” Scoble recently filmed a breakfast interview with Starbucks CIO Stephen Gillet, who provided a tour of the organization’s network operations (approx. 8 minutes).

In one of the more high-profile hirings this quarter, Bloomberg BusinessWeek reported the appointment of Toby Eduardo Renshaw as the new CIO for American Express, beginning in January.
Ken J. Cochrane, partner and national co-leader of IT Advisory Services at KPMG and former CIO of the Government of Canada will be among the those headlining Insight Information’s Public Sector CIO conference in Ottawa on Jan. 17-18:
