The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), backed by a group of online leaders, released a document on Tuesday describing best practices for developing Web pages that can be displayed properly on small, mobile devices.
In a further push into the mobile space, Google Inc. has optimized Google News for mobile phone users. When Internet-enabled phone users visit google.com, they'll now see a news link that points to a page listing news headlines. Users can search for news stories from a variety of sources and browse based on subject.
Google Inc. continued extending its reach beyond the PC this week by acquiring social networking service Dodgeball.com, according to a note posted Wednesday on Dodgeball.com's Web site. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and representatives of Dodgeball.com and Google did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
