Survey shows engineers earn between $250k and $1 million

According to the End of YearPay Report 2022, which examined top paying companies, locations, growing titles, and other trends, San Francisco is the highest paying city for tech professionals.

This was due to the salary rate being around $234,000. Meanwhile, Greater Seattle Area comes in second with a rate of $213,000, and New York City comes in third with a rate of $187,000. Zurich ($178,000) was the highest paying city in Europe, followed by London ($116,000) and Dublin ($112,000).

It went on to say that principal engineers can earn up to $1 million, and that even entry-level engineers can earn more than $250,000 at the highest-paying tech firms. Its findings are based on 150,000 salary submissions. Entry-level engineers with up to two years of experience can expect to earn around $274,000 at New York’s Two Sigma, which specializes in applying data science to the financial services industry. Stripe, the online payment specialist, offered approximately $266,000, and Cruise, the self-driving car company, offered approximately $238,000.

On a standard engineering grade, Databricks pays the most, around $443,000, while Cruise and online gaming platform Roblox come in second and third, with $361,000 and $354,000, respectively. A principal engineer at the highest payer, social media giant Facebook, could earn $1,044,000 per year. Stripe came in second with $900,000 in this tier of engineers, while Airbnb came in third with $796,000.
