Snapchat releases chatbot powered by ChatGPT

Snapchat has launched a chatbot powered by the most recent version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. According to Snap CEO Evan Spiegel, AI chatbots will increasingly become a part of people’s daily lives.

Snapchat’s bot, dubbed “My AI,” will be pinned to the app’s chat tab above conversations with friends. While the bot will initially be available only to Snapchat Plus subscribers for $3.99 per month, Spiegel hopes to eventually make it available to all of Snapchat’s 750 million monthly users.

The new chatbot will appear at the top of the Chat tab. My AI can assist me in answering trivia questions or writing a haiku. My AI was programmed to have a distinct voice and personality that reflects its core values of “friendship, learning, and fun.” It has also been trained to follow the app’s trust and safety policies.

“My AI can recommend birthday gift ideas for your BFF, plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggest a recipe for dinner, or even write a haiku about cheese for your cheddar-obsessed pal,” the company wrote in a blog post. “Make My AI your own by giving it a name and customizing the wallpaper for your Chat.”

With the “My AI” feature, users will be able to name it, customize the chat wallpaper, and ask questions just like they would with ChatGPT. Snapchat’s chatbot does have some ChatGPT limitations, such as refusing to respond to questions about politics, violence, swearing, and even academic essay writing.
