According to Karnataka State Industries Minister M B Patil, Foxconn plans to begin iPhone manufacture in the Indian state of Karnataka by April 2024. The government will provide land to Foxconn before July 1 to enable this project.
Following the acquisition of 1.2 million square meters (13 million square feet) of property in Bengaluru city in Karnataka, the creation of the iPhone manufacturing plant is estimated to provide roughly 50,000 job possibilities. The project’s particular site encompasses 300 acres within Devanahalli’s information technology investment area (ITIR).
Minister M B Patil announced, “The identified 300 acres of land at ITIR of Devanahalli would be handed over by July 1, 2023. Along with this, the government would ensure providing 5 million liters per day (MLD) of water, quality power supply, road connectivity, and other necessary infrastructure facilities.” This accelerated process, valued at INR 13,600 crore, aims to create 50,000 employment opportunities.
According to Reuters, Foxconn has set an ambitious goal of producing 20 million iPhones per year at its Karnataka facility. Apple’s decision to diversify its supply chains away from China and produce its flagship model in India comes at a time when trade tensions between the United States and China are rising.
