Veritas serves up cloud connectivity capabilities to Azure, OpenStack

At its Veritas View event in Las Vegas this week, Veritas Technologies deepened its public and private cloud capabilities — particularly for Microsoft Azure and, to an even greater extent, OpenStack.

There were two key pieces of news to come out of the event (the first to carry the Veritas name in more than a decade).

The first bit of news is an update to NetBackup, the vendor’s data protection software. Veritas added two new connectors to the data protection solution, doubling the number of major supported clouds. NetBackup already supported both Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform, but the update added capabilities for both Azure and OpenStack.

It’s a major update that goes beyond expanding which clouds NetBackup is compatible with. Besides adding data protection capabilities for Azure and OpenStack, Veritas also beefed up NetBackup’s data availability capabilities, including the launch of the new Veritas Hyperscale for OpenStack, the new Veritas Access for seamless data accessibility no matter where it resides and the integration of NetBackup with Veritas Resiliency Platform 2.1 for easier orchestration of complex recoveries of thousands of virtual machines.

“The opportunity to leverage data is hindered by the fact that it’s stored in many places, making it difficult for organizations to manage and govern,” said Ana Pinczuk, chief product officer at Veritas, in a statement. “In a world of digital transformation where information is everything, data becomes your key business asset. Data is growing exponentially and you can’t solve that with hardware. A software-driven approach, which completely abstracts information from infrastructure, is the only path forward. Veritas’ data management solutions help organizations achieve data protection, business resiliency and regulatory readiness across heterogeneous environments, whether on-premises or in the cloud.”

At the conference, Veritas also announced a new partnership with Red Hat. Together, the two companies will collaborate on business-critical enterprise applications designed to be deployed on OpenStack. The partnership will revolve around creating new solutions for Red Hat OpenStack Platform.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Veritas to bring enterprise customers more choice and draw on their long legacy of enterprise storage management, resiliency and data protection to help our customers address the performance and reliability requirements of traditional tier one workloads running on Red Hat OpenStack Platform,” said Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager of OpenStack at Red Hat, in a statement.
