If bar codes could talk, what would they say? Anything at all, if Kosaido Co. Ltd. in Japan and software developer Original Design Inc. have their way. The companies have a 2D bar code system capable of holding 800 words, and they’re promoting it as an advertising model. Users simply scan the black and white bits of bar code with a companion “Speechio” reader (which is about the size of an ostrich egg) and hear or read the ubiquitous “more information” about advertised products or articles in magazines.
