Polycom blitzes customers with product announcements

On the eve of its Vancouver partner conference Polycom has announced more ways for organizations to get into video collaboration systems along with new products.

The company said Tuesday that it is bringing new cloud, cloud or on-premise solutions for companies of all sizes. They include:

RealPresence One, a cloud-based version of the company’s RealPresence platform software and services for video, voice and content collaboration. Available on an annual subscription, Polycom says its aimed at customers that want to get into the technology for the first time;

— Virtual editions of individual RealPresence Platform components that run on industry-standard servers in their data centres. These Virtual Editions are aimed at organizations that want to optimize, streamline or expand their existing video networks, and will work alongside hardware appliances, for what Polycom says will be a seamless, hybrid network.

In addition, it is releasing these new products:

Immersive Studio, a custom-built collaboration room (below) for up to 21 people, which Polycom says will help brain-storming meetings;

The flexible configuration lets users see content on any of the large displays in the studio — including an 18-foot video wall with three 84-in. screens– as well as on mobile devices like tablets and laptops. The studio also supports Polycom’s VisualBoard virtual whiteboard for interactive note taking on business documents, CAD drawings, blueprints or maps;

–By upgrading to RealPresence Mobile v3.1 and RealPresence Desktop v.3.1 laptop, tablet and smart phone users now can take advantage of include instant messaging, access to VisualBoard and SmartPairing for sharing content;

— RealPresence Media Manager has been updated to v.6.6 to integrate with technology from a company called RAMP to make video content searchable. RealPresence Manager is an automated software solution that lets organizations capture, manage, deliver and access video content, like lectures and seminars, from any source to any device.
RealPresence One and RealPresence Platform, Virtual Editions, are available and shipping in select countries worldwide today. RealPresence Media Manager v6.6 will be available this month. Immersive Studio is available and shipping in select countries worldwide today. RealPresence Mobile v3.1 software application for smartphones and tablets is available today as a free download from Apple iTunes and from Google Play. RealPresence Desktop v3.1 is available for download at www.polycom.com.
