IBM sells off storage vendor Mylex

Storage vendor LSI Logic Corp. will acquire Mylex from IBM Corp. in a cash transaction.

Mylex is a business unit of IBM that makes RAID controllers, storage subsystems and storage components. Acquiring Mylex, will give LSI Logic products for the entry-level storage market, including PCI-RAID.

LSI makes storage chips, digital signal processors and storage controllers and systems. They also signed a deal in June with IBM of this year to manufacture an Ultra SCSI 320 RAID controller for IBM’s Intel-based xSeries x235.

IBM lately is lightening its load in the storage business – it sold its disk drive business to Hitachi Data Systems Corp. earlier this month.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

IBM is online at http://www.ibm.com
