EDS release tracks digital assets

The Solutions Consulting arm of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) on Thursday launched its Digital Asset Management product, which is aimed at global outfits in the media and entertainment industries.

The solution is designed to accurately track digital assets, retrieve assets quickly and allow for the reuse of digital information, the company said. Some of the more relevant technology components include a digital asset management enterprise and planning assessment tool; a logging, tagging and indexing solution; archive, search, retrieve and re-purpose component; and a metadata standards and schema tagging solution. Other features include a digital rights, secure distribution and enterprise integration and workflow solution.

The company also said the product is built on an open standards architecture that allows for integration with other data and content management sources, while offering media and entertainment companies a way to manage their digital property.

Data compiled by Forrester Research Inc. says that an average midsize company owns 20,000 to 50,000 digital images that carry a replacement value of approximately US$20 million. Its data also concluded that 70 per cent of that content ends up being re-created and not re-purposed.

EDS, in Plano, Tex., is online at www.eds.com.
