Easterners look for new Aliant Telecom head to keep

Once upon a time, Don Whitty called St. Lawrence, Nfld. home. The coastal town, he recalled, was so small that Whitty knew the local phone technician by name, his pastime and his beverage of choice: Sandy; accordion playing, and rum.

Now that he’s president of Mosaic Technologies Corp., an e-learning development house headquartered in Fredericton , N.B., Whitty says his Atlantic homeland maintains the familiarity he remembers from St. Lawrence. Judging by his words, the East Coast really is a place where everyone knows somebody who works for the phone company.
