Canadian insurers renew contracts

Montreal-based CGI Group Inc. in February received three five-year contract renewals which it values at more than $40 million in total.

CGU Group Canada Ltd. (CGU), the largest property and casualty insurance group in Canada, has engaged CGI to support and maintain CGU’s commercial lines applications Canada-wide. The commercial lines applications support CGU in the administration of all underwriting, billing, and claims processing. CGU writes approximately CDN$650 million in commercial premium income, all of which flows through and is hosted in CGI’s data centre in Mississauga, Ont. As part of the contract, CGI will be providing its rating engine Ratabase to support all rating done by all of CGU’s personal lines and commercial lines applications.

CGI has been serving CGU for about 15 years, reports a CGI news release. During the last four years, CGU has acquired several companies, resulting in dramatic growth. With annual premiums in excess of $1.7 billion, CGU is the largest property and casualty insurance group in Canada. CGU member company The Pilot Insurance Company has renewed CGI’s contract for the support and maintenance of Pilot’s personal lines applications. The 75-year-old Pilot Insurance writes more than 400 million in total premium income in Ontario, of which all personal auto and property lines business flows through and is hosted in CGI’s Mississauga data centre.

The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company also signed a multi-million dollar, five-year contract with CGI for the support and maintenance of its commercial property lines applications Canada-wide. The commercial lines applications support The Dominion in the administration of commercial property underwriting. Founded in 1887, The Dominion is one of Canada’s oldest and largest property and casualty insurance companies. It distributes its home, automobile and business insurance products and services nation-wide through independent brokers.
