AMD chip ready to roll in notebooks

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) on Monday released a new mobile processor and announced the chip is available in notebooks immediately, breaking the trend of its last few processor launches.

AMD’s last several desktop processors have taken some time making their way into systems, with some processors announced in August just starting to make their way into systems now.

The new Mobile Athlon XP 2200+ will be priced at US$186 in 1,000-unit quantities. AMD’s current performance leader among mobile processors, the Mobile Athlon XP 2000+, is priced at US$345. The lower price for the new chip should mean prices are set to decline across AMD’s Mobile Athlon XP line.
