About transaction processing, OLTP

Transaction processing refers to the real-time processing of user requests. A transaction may comprise several distinct operations, such as in a banking application to transfer funds, involving updates of a savings account record and a chequing account record. A critical requirement of transaction processing is that all operations must succeed completely or they must all fail or be rolled back so that all affected database records are returned to their pre-transaction state.
