What is Desktop Virtualization?

Desktop virtualization is a model in which a server hosts an entire o/s and set of applications within a virtual machine (VM) accessible by a single user. These may run remotely on the server VM, or be downloaded to run on the client PC, preserving that user’s profile and privileges regardless of location. Browser-based thin clients that access web-based applications, and terminal services, in which the client is used only for display and input, are sometimes referred to as virtual desktops.
