SkyDrive Pro gets new mobile app

People who use iOS and Windows 8 mobile devices can now access cloud services from SharePoint Online using a new SkyDrive Pro mobile app released by Microsoft Corp.

The iOS version of the application works on iPads, iPhones and iPod touch devices, the Windows 8 version works on smart phones and tablets.

The free application is available in the Windows Store and Apple’s App Store for SharePoint online users in Office 365.

“After signing in to their Office 365 account, users can access, view and upload documents from anywhere,” said Mark Kashman, senior product manager for SharePoint in a recent blog.

He said the SkyDrive Pro app can be used for:

  • Viewing documents in the SkyDrive Pro folder
  • Selecting specific content to take offline when traveling or when bandwidth is low
  • Organizing content by creating a new folder
  • Uploading content
  • Sharing content with others
