Lost the remote? Use your handheld

Interactive TV provider, TV Compass and TV listings magazine, Radio Times today announced a joint venture that will enable PDAs to double up as TV remote controls.

The service, which is designed to work with devices running Pocket PC, is the first of its type. As well as turning your handheld into a TV control, the Radio Times contribution is to provide you with the latest programme listings direct to your PDA.

Whenever you synch your handheld with your PC, the listings will be downloaded for you to view. In much the same way as existing services such as My Digiguide work, you can also customize listings to view favourite channels and programmes.

“This service demonstrates the versatility of Pocket PC software, applying the authority of the Radio Times to the rich and interactive user experience unique to the Pocket PC,” said Anne-Marie Duffy, mobile marketing manager at Microsoft Corp.
