Indoor golf experience provider elevates projector performance

Experience taught the team at Peak Performance & Athletics that when it comes to projector solutions, there is a huge difference between “okay” and “extraordinary.”

“We run our projectors up to 16 hours a day,” said Kevin King, Founder and CEO, Peak Performance & Athletics. “With the projectors we were using previously, our customers were noticing clear bulb degradation within a month. In a business where we offer customers the ability to forget that they’re not actually outside playing a round of golf, technical issues are a critical shortcoming.”

Seeking an immersive experience

Most times when you hear a story about a projector solution, it’s in an office context. However, as King notes, an indoor golf facility is an excellent demonstration of the potential and power of the right technology solution.

“When it comes to projector solutions, the word ‘golf’ doesn’t immediately spring to mind,” said King. “This is what probably made our company – a 16,000-square foot indoor golf facility where people can work on their golf swing year-round thanks to the latest technology – an interesting challenge for an organization like LG.”

Peak Performance & Athletics was keen to upgrade its technology platform in time for a move into a new, larger facility. The centerpiece of Peak’s upgraded customer experience is innovative projection technology.

“What we strive to do is give our customers an indoor golf course ‘feel’, but this isn’t easy to achieve,” says King. “Many factors go into that, from getting just the right lighting to building practice bays that allow for free swinging. The visual element is crucial. It’s what gives people that ‘out-on-the-green’ experience.”

The stakes for companies in this space are higher than people might think. Between 2011 and 2022, the golf course and country club market has remained healthy, hitting a (projected) high in 2022 of $2.96B.

“Being in a highly competitive space makes it worthwhile for us to insist on great technology as opposed to ‘good enough,’” said King. “Apart from that, we value our customers, and are always looking for ways to enhance their experience.”

Two years of laser light

Peak Performance & Athletics was seeking longevity, with bulbs lasting longer than a few weeks, and robustness, with projectors that are both reliable and cost-effective.

“The LG ProBeam BF50NST, delivers a picture of up to 300 inches in size,” said King. “It features a brilliant laser light source that displays brighter images at 5,000 ANSI lumens, lasting up to 20,000 hours – that’s more than two years. Suffice to say we’re very happy.”
