A city-wide WiFi network was completed recently in Grand Haven, MI, a beach community on Lake Michigan, which is now claimed to be the world’s first “hot city”.

Ottawa Wireless Inc. says it is the first company to deploy an end-to-end city-wide WiFi network, blanketing Grand Haven (and 15 miles off shore) with broadband Internet access. Some of the benefits offered by the “hot city” include:

A Web designer has moved his office to his boat, mixing business and pleasure to make a dream come true o Boaters access the Internet up to 15 miles off shore

Residents receive broadband for under US$20 a month, and gain city-wide mobility for $5 more

VoIP is available city-wide, another industry first
