Symantec releases new encryption tool

Symantec Corp. has announced the release of a new security tool aimed at providing advanced encryption for computer and removable storage devices.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based security giant said Symantec Endpoint Encryption will help customers protect sensitive information and mitigate the increasing risks of data loss.

The Full Disk Edition offers hard drive encryption designed to protect Microsoft Windows-based machines, while the Removable Storage Edition is aimed at protecting all data on USB, Firewire, Compact Flash, iPods and DVDs.

Symantec said the audit reporting capabilities in both editions will help ensure that enterprises meet government directions and regulations that mandate encryption and data protection.
