OpenText offers free enterprise file synchronization, sharing

With the growing adoption of online collaboration practices in the enterprise, systems that facilitate simpler and faster file synchronization and sharing have become very important.

One problem though is that many employees are prone to resorting to consumer-grade file sharing tools in exchanging corporate data giving rise to a security nightmare that keeps many IT administrators awake at night.

OpenText Corp. (TSE: OTC) today announced that it is offering its customers free enterprise file sharing and synchronization for OpenText Content Suite 10.5. Content Suite 10.5 Platform customers will qualify for an unlimited number of OpenText Tempo Box users to enable secure and compliant file sharing across the entire organization as well as with partners and customers.

“Companies need a simple, integrated solution for employees that offers a level of governance to ensure corporate data is well protected,” said Muhi Majzoub, senior vice president of engineering, OpenText. “While there are low-cost consumer options available, none offer the security and data control benefits of an enterprise solution.”

Employees using free, consumer-grade file sharing tools to exchange information, create data confidentiality and security risks, a lack of integration with their ECM repositories, data sovereignty and ownership concerns and legal and compliance risks, he said.

A recent study from The Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) found that 56 per cent of organizations have banned consumer-grade file-share and sync services. The survey also found 71 per cent of employees lack support from IT for external collaboration.

The Tempo Box offers an enterprise-grade, easy-to use, secure file sync and share solution for these organizations at no cost, according to OpenText.

Backed by OpenText ECM, Tempo Box’s secure management for the enterprise allows organizations to:

• Remotely wipe mobile devices of any proprietary company data when necessary
• Set and manage access permissions, retention policies and file storage
• Securely communicate between the repository and web, desktop, and mobile clients using 256-bit SSL encryption
• Encrypt mobile device content for iOS, Android and Blackberry

Tempo Box will be available as part of the Content Suite 10.5 Platform, core of the OpenTextContent Suite. Customers can access, share and synchronize enterprise information, while leveraging the latest smartphones and tablets.

Tempo Box has also been made available to customers of OpenText Extended ECM for SAP 10.5. It will also be available for OpenText Extended ECM for Oracle 10.5.
