Are you still leery of your offsite backup plan? Not worried about backing your files to an FTP site? Symantec Corp.’s Norton Ghost 14.0 is one of the recent PC backup products that gives users the choice of backing up entire drives or just certain portions of a drive. This one only works on Vista, so XP holdouts won’t be able to use this software. New to version 14.0 is the ability to back up to a file transfer protocol site and to use Google Desktop to search backup indexes. It can back up Iomega Zip and Jazz drives, USB devices, CDs and DVDs. It also supports dynamic disks and Linux EXT2/3 and Linux Swap Partitions. The LightsOut Restore feature has an on-disk software recovery environment, which does not require a bootable CD. The suggested retail price is US$69.99.

NetEconomy Financial Crime Suite

Senior managers at financial service firms who wonder what exactly their employees are doing with their firms’ money might want to look at Fiserv Inc.’s NetEconomy Financial Crime Suite. This product, which is intended to help prevent employee fraud, is designed to record and analyze all interaction between employees and business applications. It generates alerts when it detects suspicious behaviour, and lets administrators replay all user interactions. Financial Crime Suite users Intellinx software, which records and analyzes end user screens and helps investigators gather audit trails. The NetEconomy software targets employees who are considered high-risk, such as those who access information on more customer accounts than their colleagues.

Seal Shield’s Silver Seal medical grade mouse

Step right up, germophobes. Do you lie awake at night wondering whether a colleague who uses your keyboard has washed his or her hands? If so, Seal Shield LLC has just the product for you. The Jacksonville, Fla.-based vendor claims its Silver Seal “medical-grade” mouse is the first that is fully submersible and dishwasher safe. Made with anti-microbial plastic, it also has silver ions, which are said to help kill germs. The mouse is available now for US$69.99, and if you pay cash, think of the number of people who handled that cash before you did. The Silver Seal has precision optics with 800 dpi and is resistant to water, disinfectants, acids, corrosives and shock. It also resists alcohol, so keep slathering on that Purell.
