OX Documents targets Office 365, Google Docs

German software maker Open-Xchange said it is poised to release its own cloud-based productivity app called OX Documents.

Google Docs and Microsoft Office 365, will soon have another company in the cloud-based office productivity suite space.

German software maker Open-Xchange said it is poised to release its own Internet-based productivity app called OX Documents.

The first of its tool, the OX Text word processor will come out next month, according to a report from online technology site Gigaom.com.

OX Document is the latest addition to the company OX App Suite. OX App Suite is a virtual desktop that allows users to centralize email and file storage and view their documents from a single portal and also comes with calendaring and other productivity tools.

The OX Text is described as a collaborative document editor. It is based on HTML5 and JavaScript and the team that created it were the “core developers “ who created OpenOffice, the free alternative to Microsoft Office, according to Gigaom.

OX Text will be available as an extension to OX App Suite but will also be available as a standalone product
