Ontario’s largest multi-site hospital system is using Hewlett-Packard’s networking products to run critical medical applications and services across its separate facilities which span 12 municipalities.
“We needed a robust network that can handle high speed data transmission across our hospital system and a reliable infrastructure to enable to provision services quickly,” Wilson said in a statement. “With HP Networking solutions we improved patient care by providing doctors with fast access to complex data and enhanced diagnostic capabilities.”

After evaluating solutions from other vendors, the Niagara Health Systems (NHS) chose the HP 12500 and HP 8200 zl switch series for core, according to HP. The HP Intelligent Management Centre (IMC) management application also provided the visibility across the network which administrators wanted.
The HP 12500 switch series offers an open application architecture which enables flexible deployment options. The HP 8200 zl switch series is a key component of HP’s unified wired and wireless network infrastructure solution. It includes platform technology, system software, system management application integration and network security.
By virtualizing technologies at all layers, NHS was able to achieve 99.999 per cent network availability, HP said.
The new deployment also eliminated system complexity by managing all virtual switches as a single device with the use of HP Intelligent Resilient Framework. The virtualization technology combines the advantages of switch stacking commonly found in the access layer with the high performance and reliability of chassis type distribution devices.
Traditionally separate management tools were also integrated to provide complete management of resources.
