Most firms have no big data plans: Survey

There's been a lot of hype around big data recently, but this survey makes things more grounded. It also includes responses on IT managers storage choices

What's so big about big data? Not much, according to a recent survey of technology plans of IT staff. According to this article from ComputerWorld U.S., 56 per cent of respondents said they will not be deploying big data analytics applications even beyond 2013. Why? So far they don't see a need.

Earlier this month CIO Canada held a roundtable on IT transformation in the financial services market, where an IDC Canada gave this warning: “We’re all in that first flush of excitement around big data, and everybody’s getting their feet wet,” he said, “but I think we’ll soon enter those post-honeymoon blues where you start to realize the all the impacts on financial controls, and the integration issues, which are huge.”

There were other questions asked in the survey which will be of interest, including disk storage choices.
