vCider, which specializes in the development of virtual network overlay technology for secure data centre infrastructure. Usually acquisitions are announced in a press release, but this came in a blog.
An industry analyst suggests Cisco's move is a way of signalling that it won't give up trying to become a leader in the emerging software-defined networking space.
