For me, Women in the IT Channel was the event of the year

I joined ITWC in January 2017, and during my first week my manager told me that I had to attend the Women in the IT Channel Recognition in Luncheon. The luncheon is was in August.

In my head, I was thinking, “Yes! They want to keep me, I have this job on lock! I’ll attend anything you want just hire me!’

Eight months later I now finally got to see what all the excitement was all about. This year it was at a golf and country club in Mississauga and let me tell you, there is nothing better than feeling like a million dollars when you walk through the door!

All the events my company hosts are high-end, elegant affairs geared for those in the IT channel, but the luncheon really stands out from the rest and not only because the amount of heels worn. It was a beautiful location and of course there were flowers everywhere and as a special gift guests could bring the various arrangements home with them.

My manager and I brought home at least 20 arrangements (we didn’t steal them, they were left over! They needed a home!). We brought back about 10 out of guilt to our male counterparts the next day. I still have three at my desk. Absolutely gorgeous!

I bet any male reading this is probably rolling his eyes right about now. I’ll get back on track…

It was my job to invite ladies to attend and I kept patting myself on the back all day for a job well done, so don’t even try to tell me this event fills up itself (it does). Now listen folks, I’m not sure you have ever been in a room with a couple hundred women but you are either one lucky guy or you’re in the wrong place. From personal experience having hundreds of women (especial ‘Type A’,) you are going to have major problems, women complaining about this or that, how the washrooms are too far, the napkins aren’t folded right, etc etc.

There was none of that at the event. Every woman left smiling and was in great spirits and I have never seen that before in my life. You can’t please everyone but I can honestly say everyone had a great time, left inspired and got to connect and reconnect with great people.

The one downside about the event? Now I have to wait 12 months for the next one.
