Word From The Editor

You hold in your hands the inaugural issue of IT World Canada, a print companion to our comprehensive ITworldcanada.com Web site.

The germ of the idea that led to IT World Canada started developing several months ago when Laurentian Technomedia Inc. (LTI) began asking its readers “What Keeps You Up At Night?” with the aim of offering better-targeted leading-edge information to help them do their jobs better. The response from readers of ComputerWorld Canada, CIO Canada and Network World Canada has been overwhelming.

The result is IT World Canada, a bi-monthly publication that will tackle IT issues in specific industry sectors or technology areas, based on reader response.

Our premier issue is dedicated to readers within the financial services industry, an industry often at the forefront of new technology adoption in this country.

We’ve taken a look at how some of Canada’s leading financial services companies are using IT to improve their infrastructure, increase employee productivity and better serve their customers. Where appropriate, new technologies and products have been covered as well, but the emphasis is on broader issues of integrating IT into the business and preparing organizations to compete in the new Internet economy.

Wherever possible, we’ve tried to point you to additional information on our Web site related to the topics covered here. ITworldcanada.com features various portals devoted to key IT issues such as e-commerce/e-business, improving infrastructure, migrating to new networking technologies, converging voice and data technology, building corporate intranets/extranets, skills management and data warehousing.

We hope you like what you see, both in IT World Canada and on our Web site. Please let us know what you think.
