Wireless LAN security – walking the tightrope

“Security vs. ease of use” – is a conundrum a lot of network managers face when it comes to wireless LANs. In some companies, IT managers have refused to deploy wireless LANs because of the risks they pose. Others have allowed their (legitimate) concerns for security to obscure other equally important requirements. There are many deployments today that exemplify the notion of: “more security, less usability.” But in today’s world of open information access, that doesn’t seem to be the answer. When deploying a Wireless LAN then, how does a network manager resolve the security vs. convenience conundrum.
