Truck leasing firm Empress uses fleet tracking app

Canadian truck and leasing company Empress is deploying fleet management software from Laval, Que.-based Datacom Wireless Corp., the companies announced on Wednesday.

The three-year agreement with Empress Truck Leasing includes 300 units of Datacom’s VGSM-150i, a theft deterrent, detection and stolen vehicle recovery system which is continuously monitored by the vendor’s own alarm central team. The system also allows companies like Empress the ability to monitor excessive vehicle speed and when the ignition is turned on or off via a Web browser. Theft is prevented through the use of an immobilizer system that forbids vehicle usage unless one of up to six remotes is activated, according to Datacom.

Empress said it has plans to use the system across its entire fleet of 400 vehicles.
