Telus to offer cloud-based mobile device management

There’s no shortage of on-premise and cloud-based mobile device management on the market, which isn’t surprising considering how many organizations want to equip staff so they can do work out of the office.

Telus Corp. is elbowing its way into the fight with its second MDM solution this year, this one fashioned from a partnership with VMware’s AirWatch cloud MDM service and Vox Mobile.

Telus teamed with Vox in March to begin offering a fully managed MDM solution with six options (such as mobile expense management, server management and process automation) for 500+ users. This new service, called MDM Made Easy, is aimed at small and medium-sized organizations.

MDM Made Easy allows organizations to deploy mobile device management without spending on infrastructure, Telus said. Pre-configured user profiles simplify enrolling, configuring and updating devices. It covers any carrier, and devices running BlackBerry, iOS, Android and Windows operating systems.

Existing Telus Business customers get free licence for a basic package of services for all devices bought through Telus. They can add for an extra fee additional features like secure email, application scanning, file sharing and secure Web browsing.

The service is hosted in Canada by Telus [TSX: T] with AirWatch as the platform. Vox Mobile provides professional services and support.

Pricing was not announced.

“The challenges IT departments face are becoming more complex with the convergence of mobility, cloud, big data and the Internet of Things, and TELUS is committed to helping our customers navigate this rapidly changing landscape,” said Peter Green, senior vice-president of TELUS Business Solutions. “MDM Made Easy allows our customers to leverage the cloud to quickly deploy a robust mobile device management solution that is cost-effective, scalable and simple to manage.”

Bell and Rogers also offer a range of mobile device management support. In reply to a question, a spokesman said Rogers offers MDM solutions that monitor, secure and support mobile devices within an organization, regardless of the business’s location or service provider. “We enable mobile workforces of all industries and sizes by building and deploying cloud-based or on premises MDM solutions based on organizations’ specific needs. We also offer fully managed MDM solutions that include support in the roll-out of apps to end users and managing the security and configuration of all devices.”
