The OfficeConnect Cable/DSL Secure Gateway was released last month by 3Com Corp., offering users more security for their broadband Internet connections. The OfficeConnect offering provides security features such as a firewall and the ability to initiate and/or terminate virtual private networking (VPN) connections, according tot he company. The product connects to existing cable or DSL modems via Ethernet cable and features an integrated switch with four Ethernet/fast Ethernet LAN ports. The gateway can automatically detect the type of Ethernet cable being used and will adapt automatically to make the correct connection. Multiple users are able to share a single connection over cable or DSL, thereby reducing broadband access charges. Available now, the OfficeConnect Cable/DSL Secure Gateway is listed at $525. Fluke Networks Canada last month said that it has expanded the capabilities of its FiberInspector Video Microscope by adding a high level of magnification, enabling users to inspect single-mode fibre cores. The 400X FiberInspector was designed to inspect installed fibre terminations in hardware devices, patch panels and test equipment, according to the company. The point: users don’t have to disassemble hardware equipment in order to inspect it. The product features a handheld, 2.5 inch LCD display unit and a probe, which is comprised of an LED light-source and CCD video camera.
