Call-Net Enterprises Inc. announced the addition of three network rings in Central and Western Canada, marking the completion of its national optical fibre network. The 14,600-kilometre network, consisting of four rings in total, uses technology from Nortel Networks, including OC-192 SONET and Nortel Networks Multi-wavelength Optical Repeater (MOR) Systems. The new rings added an additional 12,3000 route kilometres to the existing network. The Central ring connects Toronto to Winnipeg through Sudbury, Ont., and Thunder Bay, Ont., and the Southern U.S. route links Winnipeg and Toronto through Minneapolis/St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit and Sarnia, Ont. The Prairie ring connects Winnipeg to Calgary through Regina, Saskatoon, Medicine Hat and Edmonton. Kamloops, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton are linked through the West ring.
